Is your exterminator licensed in Pennsylvania?
BEST DOORSTEP CHECK IN THE COUNTRY, and it is in the regulations: under 7 Pa. Code § 128.31(c) a pesticide application business must prominently display its Department-assigned license number on EVERY vehicle involved in the application side of the business — in figures at least three inches high, on BOTH sides, in a contrasting color. Walk out and look at the van before anyone touches your flat. No number, or a number you cannot read from the kerb, and something is wrong. § 128.31(a) makes operating without a business license unlawful outright, and licenses expire on 31 December each year, so a January or February job is worth re-checking. § 128.31(d) requires the business to return a departing employee's applicator certification or registered technician card within 15 days — so a technician still carrying a card from a previous employer is a warning sign. Note the domain moved: directory listings still show paplants.state.pa.us, but the live lookup is on paplants.pa.gov. Phone 717-772-5231.

What to verify, in order
The business license, not just the technician
Most states license the company and certify the individual separately. A certified technician working for an unlicensed business is still an unlicensed job.
The category or phase covers structural work
Licenses are issued by category. An applicator certified for turf and ornamental has no business in your bedroom.
Status is active, not lapsed
Some state databases exclude cancelled licenses from results entirely, so a revoked company returns the same empty result as a typo. If you get nothing, phone the agency before assuming you mistyped.
Complaint and enforcement history
Where a state publishes disciplinary actions they are usually on the board site rather than inside the license search.
