Privacy
What this site collects: almost nothing.
Plainly, and specifically — including the one thing most privacy policies quietly omit.
The short version
The notice letter generator
The letter generator asks for your name, your address, your landlord's details and what you found. That matters, so to be exact about it:
Everything you type stays in your browserThe tool is a single HTML page with no server behind it. What you enter is never transmitted, never stored, and never logged — it exists only in the memory of the tab you have open, and disappears when you close it. Nobody, including us, can see it. If you want to keep the letter, use the print or copy buttons.
The one tool that does store data
The cost and evidence logThe record keeper is the single exception on this site, and it is deliberate: a log you build over weeks is useless if it vanishes when you close the tab. It therefore saves what you enter to your browser’s local storage — on your own device, in your own browser.
It is still never transmitted and we still never see it. But unlike everything else here, it persists. Three consequences worth knowing: anyone with access to that browser profile can read it, clearing your browsing data will delete it, and it does not follow you to another device unless you use the export and import buttons. There is a Delete everything button on the page, and it removes the stored data immediately.
If you are using a shared, borrowed or public computer, export a backup and then delete.
The thing most policies leave out
Google FontsThis site loads its typefaces from Google's font service. That means your browser makes a request to Google when a page loads, and Google therefore receives your IP address and basic request information, subject to Google's own privacy policy rather than ours. We do not receive anything from that request. It can be eliminated by serving the fonts from this domain instead, which is a change we would like to make.
Aside from that, pages here load nothing from third parties — no trackers, no embedded video, no social widgets, no tag managers.
Server logs
This is a static site and will be served by a hosting provider, which will keep ordinary access logs — typically IP address, timestamp, page requested and user agent — for security and operational purposes. That is standard for any website and is handled under the host's own policy.
Links out
Pages here link to state agencies, legislatures, courts and legal aid organizations. Once you follow a link you are on their site under their policy, not ours. Some state license lookups are operated by private contractors on the state's behalf; where we know that, the page says so.
Children
This site is aimed at adults dealing with a housing problem. It does not knowingly collect information from anyone, of any age, because it does not collect information.
Changes
If this site ever adds analytics, advertising, an email list or any other form of collection, this page will be rewritten to say so specifically, and the date below will change. A privacy policy that quietly stops being true is worse than none.
