Is your exterminator licensed in North Carolina?
The most misunderstood distinction in the country: in North Carolina, certification alone does NOT permit structural pest control work for hire. A Certified Applicator card is not a license, and a Commercial CA credential is only valid while linked to a licensee in good standing. Someone can show you a real certification card and still be operating illegally. Check for the LICENSE. Note also that structural work is licensed by phase, so confirm the phase covers your job, and that all employees performing structural work must be registered with the Division within 75 days of hire. Licensed businesses must carry insurance including a pollution and contamination endorsement. The portal splits into separate search pages by credential type — pick the right one. What to verify, in order
The business license, not just the technician
Most states license the company and certify the individual separately. A certified technician working for an unlicensed business is still an unlicensed job.
The category or phase covers structural work
Licenses are issued by category. An applicator certified for turf and ornamental has no business in your bedroom.
Status is active, not lapsed
Some state databases exclude cancelled licenses from results entirely, so a revoked company returns the same empty result as a typo. If you get nothing, phone the agency before assuming you mistyped.
Complaint and enforcement history
Where a state publishes disciplinary actions they are usually on the board site rather than inside the license search.
